Brothers Willem and Johann Coertzen opened Die Mystic Boer in 1997, because they wanted a place where they could drink cold beer, shoot some pool and listen to some cool tunes with their friends. Before they knew what hit them, strangers became friends and soon their quaint little bar became one of the hottest spots in the country.

As big fans of South African music they decided to book a band called Sweet Pea for the opening night. It was such a hit that over the next nine-something years Die Mystic Boer played host to the cream of South African and even some international acts. 

At Die Mystic Boer you would never find the CD player on random. Our DJ’s won’t be caught dead playing bubblegum pop or cheesy house. Instead you’ll hear everything from indie rock through funk to breaks and drum ‘n bass.

In 2003, due to popular demand, Die Mystic Boer decided to branch out and opened another venue in Stellenbosch on the 18^th of January which quickly became part of the town's student culture.

So who knows when Die Mystic Boer might pop up in a town near you…?
